The very thing that you will do when you reached Batam is probably finding a Money Changer and getting your hands with some Indonesia Rupiah (IDR)... And that's the mentality causing most of us to fall the "trap", which is changing money at the ferry terminals..

Ask those old birds who are travelling to Batam often, changing money at ferry terminal can never cross their minds.
